Well we just finished our Public Service Announcements and I think that my team, team Periwinkle, did a pretty good job. The thing that I like the most about it was the message that was sent. We had some pretty awesome shots that gave it that extra little something. In the end the PSA turned out to be pretty good, I am proud of it. I loved being able to use the tripod dolly (my new found love), I must say that was my favorite part. I really liked how we did things, and how we constructed our shots. Also if we couldn’t have taken the camera, lighting, tripod, and of course the tripod dolly, we wouldn’t of been able to get anything nearly as good.
However there are a few things that I didn’t like about our PSA. I think we could have done better with the words on her face at the end of the movie. Also a couple of the shots could have been improved. Like the scene where she is walking down the hallway, I think that something could have been done to make it better. Also we didn’t cut out the original audio, so if you listen closely you can hear the background noise with the music. I think we should have had a better script, when the mother is yelling at her daughter, it just seems too unprepared.
To improve the hallway seen I maybe would have slowed down the camera, because it might seem like she is walking to fast. And as for the audio in that scene I would have cut out that audio completely and just had the music playing. The script just could have been more thought out, and not so much just blah.
I already knew this, but I really realized that pre-production is the most important part of the video production process. You have to have that story board, or you’re lost. If we didn’t have a storyboard with us, we would have been confused and lost while we were filming. I also learned that timing is everything. Not only does lighting take forever to set up and get just right, but doing a few of every shot so that you have backups take a lot of time too.
If I were given the assignment to recreate the same PSA, I would start right away and not spend time fooling around. I would try to get all of the shots necessary first thing, and not waste any time in between. I would make sure that every day we had the things that were necessary to complete our PSA, just in case we needed to get one more shot. And I would take my time editing and not hurry just to get it done.
I would tell someone who is creating a PSA for their first time to take it slow and don’t rush. Get all of your shots done first thing, and have everything needed with you until you’re done, just in case you need that extra shot. And most importantly have fun, don’t make is so serious that it’s not fun for you to do. If it’s not fun, you’re not going to want to put 100% effort in it.
